Over the years Whitstable has become home to many artists, who contribute much to the town’s diversity and character. During the Whitstable Oyster Festival several artist are opening their personal studios to members of the public. The diversity and quality of work on offer is fabulous. There is no obligation to buy so don’t feel intimidated about going into any of the studios listed here – all of the artists who are listed really want you to see their work.

Paintings, prints and photographs. Open every festival day 10am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 5pm
Ann Diggens and Liz Shedden
Fish Slab Studio (behind Gallery)
Oxford Street, Whitstable
Ann studied at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston and has shown her abstract colour-field paintings in the United States. Open 11am to 4pm all week
Barbara Marks
First Floor, 103A Tankerton Road
Tankerton
Barbara’s work explores the purity of a first brush stroke, the elusive connection of the mind, body and brush in search for the gateway to the spiritual self. Open 1.30pm to 5pm except Mon & Tue
